A diet rich in vegetables, grains and protein promotes healthy teeth and gum tissue as well as a healthy body. Some foods like nuts and cheese decrease the risk of tooth decay.
Certain gums also decrease the risk of tooth decay. Gums that use Xylitol, a natural sugar, are antidecay. Two brands that use Xylitol are Trident and Orbit. The foods to avoid are high in table sugar. The obvious foods are candy, presweetened cereal, juice, energy drinks and of course pop. The frequent use of these foods will certainly cause tooth decay - and usually many teeth will be affected.
