Fillings
A filling is a restoration that is used to replace tooth structure
destroyed by dental caries (cavity) or fracture. There are different types of filling materials.
The type of filling used is determined by the patient’s oral health and cosmetic concerns.
Here are some different types of materials used:
- Composite tooth colored resin. We use this about 90 percent of the time.
- Porcelain ceramic
- Medicated glass fluoride material (glass ionomer).
- Gold
- Silver
Tooth colored resin fillings are always used in anterior teeth. They are used in bonding procedures to rebuild damaged teeth and improve shape and color of teeth. They are very life-like fillings. The same material is also bonded in the molar teeth when restoring a tooth that has a cavity or fracture.
